Abstract Submission

Submission of Symposia and Individual Presentations

Papers may be submitted as individual presentations or as part of a symposium.
  1. Individual contributions

Participants who wish to submit an individual contribution may choose between oral presentation and poster. Both oral presentations and posters submitted individually and accepted by the Scientific Committee will be grouped by category topics into thematic sessions in order to promote communication among the presenters and participants and to allow for inspiring discussions. As the distinction between oral presentation and poster is only a matter of presentation mode, submissions in both categories will be assessed by the same criteria of scientific merit. The Scientific Committee will decide upon the final mode of presentation.

Poster presentations: Posters should be in A0 format (841x1188 mm) and will be presented on stands.

Paper presentations: Paper sessions last 75 minutes and will be comprised of 5 individual oral presentations. Each paper lasts approximately 15 minutes (10 minute presentation, followed by 5 minute discussion). A chairperson, appointed by the Scientific Committee, will steer the discussion.

  2. Symposia

A Symposium is scheduled to last 90 minutes and includes 4 to 5 oral presentations. They will be organized around a theme and provide different perspectives on it. The proposed format of a symposium includes a short introduction to the topic by the chairperson, presentations by the participants, and summary statement by the chairperson or a discussant. Most importantly, a symposium is not simply a paper-reading session. The chairperson and the discussant do not give separate presentations, but highlight the essential issues raised by participants and integrate and interpret them. Please note that symposia participants come from at least two different research groups or universities.

Poster symposia may also be submitted.

Please note: Due to the enormous interest in the SSP2007 it was resolved to shorten oral presentations about 15 minutes. The adjusted duration of paper sessions and symposia is therefore newly scheduled with 75 minutes. Please consider this when preparing your talk.

Format of Poster Symposia

There are two time slots for posters scheduled for the SSP conference 2007, each lasting 90 minutes. Within each time slot, we have reserved space and time for three poster symposia sessions. These sessions are going to take place in three separate rooms lying next to each other so that participants can circulate between different posters and groups.

The duration of poster sessions is 90 minutes, whereof the first 60 minutes provide the possibility for an informal and active exchange with author(s) present. The last 30 minutes are to be arranged by the Chair and are designated for a brief overview over the field of the research covered in the symposium and a summary and discussion of the presented data by the Discussant. This last half an hour is going to be described as "Overview and discussion of the poster symposia" in the program so that conference participants may take their time to view all posters presented in the sessions and can plan ahead to attend these overviews in the last 30 minutes of the poster sessions.

Important Dates

April 05, 2007 is the deadline for abstract submission.
Submissions received after this date will not be taken into consideration.

By June 18, 2007 contact authors will be informed about the status of their contribution.
In case of an abstract withdrawal, the contact author must inform the Congress Office two weeks after receipt of acceptance at the latest.

By the beginning of august the conference program with the exact date and time of every presentation will be available on the homepage.

Submission Procedure

Upon pre-registration on the website of SSP 2007, each participant will get an account which admits to proceed with the submission of a proposal. Proposals for symposia and individual contributions may be submitted only electronically by using the online submission form(s) below.
The summaries of the symposia will be submitted by the Organizer and the corresponding papers will need to be submitted individually by the responsible author.

Please mind the following procedure: The Organzier submits the symposia under "Online Symposia Submission". With this he creates a link in the "Online Abstracts Submission" which can then be choosen by the responsible author by activating the button at the top " I was invited to participate in a symposium with this abstract". This opens a drop-down menu in which the coresponding symposia can be chosen. Therefore, the symposia needs to be submitted first.

In the submission process each participants is asked to choose at least one and up to three topics from a Topic List which are characterizing the submitted paper.
